Mirjam works as a choreographer in Basel, Berlin and London.
Her artistic practice looks at instant composition, structured improvisation and the interplay between sensation and physicality. In her multidisciplinary collaboration with sound artists she questions the relation between audience, the moving body and its live sound. Her current interest lies in examining the body and dance within the gallery space, looking at the potential and specificities of working within a visual arts context.
Her evening length work SKINNED was coproduced by Theater Roxy Birsfelden in Basel where it premiered in October 2018. The piece opened Tanztage Berlin in January 2019 at Sophiensaele to great acclaim. The same year it was restaged as a site-specific durational performance installation for 48-Stunden-Neukölln Festival at Neukölln Arcaden Gallery in Berlin, at Novosibirsk Centre for Visual Arts in Siberia/RU and for the exhibition opening of A.T.E.N.A. at the Chapelle du Quartier Haut in Sète, France.
Other works are the duet unknowing which toured with Tanzfaktor 2018 across Switzerland, the performance installation DISPLAY for Candoco Dance Company at the Wellcome Collection London and Public Affairs for wildwuchs Festival 2017 at Kaserne Basel.
As associate artist with Candoco Dance Company London, she works as a choreographer, rehearsal director, teacher and performer. Performances include Trisha Brown's Set and Reset/Reset and Thomas Hauert's Notturnino for STEPS Dance Festival Switzerland, Jérôme Bel's The Show Must Go On (UK Theatre Award) and touring Studies for C by Javier de Frutos to India, Ukraine and Jakarta.
Born in Switzerland, Mirjam trained at Basel Theatre, the Vienna State Opera, the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London (Transitions Dance Company, MA Dance Performance). She teaches professional class, improvisation and composition, facilitates workshops and teacher training on inclusive practice and leads international dance projects.
Mirjam is the recipient of the Dance UK Mentorship 2015/16 for future leaders in dance. She was supported by the TANDEM program 2017 of Tanzbüro Berlin and is part of the European program A.T.E.N.A. (Atelier Temporaire Européen de Navigation Artistique).
