Mirjam is a choreographer and performance artist based in Berlin and Basel. In collaboration with her Ensemble she produces her own work in Germany and Switzerland and tours internationally. Her artistic practice focuses on improvisation, instant composition and the correlation of sensory perception and physicality. Collaborating across disciplines, she investigates the relationship between the audience and the moving body within different contexts of space, staging her work in the theatre, gallery and museum or outdoors and in the public space.

Her most recent work series PLAY premiered at Theater ROXY Birsfelden in May 2021 and was restaged for the outdoors for 48-Stunden-Neukölln Festival Berlin and TANZFEST 2022, where it was performed in five cities across Switzerland. The durational performance installation and object series sit stand lie/push pull stroke (PLAY I), created in collaboration with audio-visual artist Lisa Premke, was developed for the KINDL Centre for Contemporary Art Berlin in 2020. Her inclusive and intergenerational performance Almost Home premiered in May 2022 the frame of the international STEPS Dance Festival at 25hours Hotel Zürich West and Hotel N’vY Geneva. A documentary on the project was produced and released for Zürich Tanzt Festival 2021. Her evening lenghth work SKINNED was performed at Theater ROXY Birsfelden in 2018 and opened Tanztage Berlin Festival at Sophiensaele in 2019. The same year SKINNED was re-staged as a site-specific performance installation for 48-Stunden-Neukölln Festival, at the Novosibirsk Centre for Visual Arts in Siberia/RU and for the exhibition opening ATENA at Chapelle du Quartier Haut in Sète/FR. Her intercultural work FIGURES premiered as a site-specific performance installation at Museum der Kulturen Basel during Museumsnacht 2020 with over 3000 visitors.  Other works include the duet unknowing, which toured Switzerland in the frame of Tanzfaktor 2018, the performance installation DISPLAY for Candoco Dance Company at the Wellcome Collection London and the intercultural work Public Affairs for wildwuchs Festival 2017 at Kaserne Basel. 

Mirjam is a teacher and lecturer for improvisation, instant composition and inclusive dance. She creates work internationally in the context of professional, inclusive and intercultural dance projects (Basel, Bern, London, Jakarta, Lagos etc). 2011-2016 she worked as a choreographer, rehearsal director and dancer for Candoco Dance Company in London and is an associate artist. She has danced for Trisha Brown, Jérôme Bel, Thomas Hauert, Rachid Ouramdane, Wendy Houstoun and others. 

Mirjam grew up in Basel and studied dance at Theater Basel, Vienna State Opera, Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London (Transitions Dance Company, MA Dance Performance). In 2021 she was awarded the June Johnson Newcomer Prize in the frame of the Swiss Performing Arts Awards 2021. She received the Dance UK Mentorship for Future Leaders in Dance 2016. Mirjam is part of the European female artists programme ATENA (Atelier Temporaire Européen de Navigation Artistique).
